PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – It’s time for sweet Calypso and energetic Roadmarch tunes. The St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) will host the Nagico Senior Calypso Eliminations & Roadmarch Competition on Saturday, March 28. The event will be held at the Celebration Palace. Showtime is 8:00pm and entrance is US $10.

Twenty (20) singers will have two targets in their sights: The Calypso singers will hope to make the cut of 10 who will move one to try and dethrone the reigning Monarch Ruminni “The Protégé” Rogers, while the Roadmarch singers will seek to capture the vacant Roadmarch title.

The 16 Calypso singers to appear on Saturday are (by their stage names): Calypso Empress, D-Monitor, Chipman, The Wizard, Shakiya, Baker Jr., Pepper, Genius, Kitty Boy, Lady Tiffany, Fish da Mega Boss, X-Rey, Barrow, Kaiso Brat, Young Dow and King Beau Beau.

The Roadmarch competition will feature: Apple Jacks, Pepper, X-Rey, The Messenger, Tiffany, Baker Jr, Lyrics and Chipman.

“Calypso and Roadmarch are the heart and soul of Carnival. Social commentary at its best and we know the singers have no shortage of issues they can touch with their songs. It should be a very exciting and energetic show. We of course would like to thank Nagico for remaining true to the art form of Calypso and to the SCDF for so many years,” the SCDF said.
