Police arrest two over the weekend for drug possession obstruction

The Royal Anguilla Police Force on Sunday 26th July, 2015 at 10:00amĀ  arrested two males from North Hill one for possession of cannabis and the other for possession of cannabis and obstruction.

The offenders one 30 years and the other 26 year were arrested after a routine traffic stop by officers sometime shortly after 9:00am whilst on The Farington Main Road.

Both offenders were later charged with the offence of possessing 5.12 grams of cannabis and the other for obstructing the police whilst in the execution of their duty.

The both appeared before the Magistrateā€™s Court today Monday 27th July, 2015 where they were both granted bail one in the sum EC $15,000.00 and the other in the sum of EC $25,000.00 with one surety each to appear back in court on Monday 7th September, 2015 to answer to the charges.

47 year old man of Cauls Bottom arrested for possession of cannabis and other offences

The Royal Anguilla Police Force on Friday 24th July, 2015 at 8:00 pm arrested a 47 year old man from Cauls Bottom for possession of 2.6 grams of cannabis.

The alleged offender was later charged with the offence of possession of cannabis as well as wounding.Ā  The wounding charge resulted from an investigation into a report that was made against him on 20th June, 2015 in relation to an incident which occurred on The Strip.

The offender appeared before the Magistrateā€™s Court today Monday 27th July, 2015 where he was granted bailed in the sum of EC $30,000.00 with one surety.

The conditions of bail are to report to The Valley police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between the hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm and to be of good behaviour.

The offender is due back in court on Monday 7th September, 2015.

Commissioner of Police of the Royal Anguilla Police Force, Mrs. Amanda Stewart has indicated that she is in Anguilla for the long term.

Mrs. Stewart who took up the reigns as Commissioner of Police on 10th July, 2015 following the retirement of then Commissioner of Police Mr. Rudolph Proctor made the declaration during her first Press Conference on Wednesday 22nd July 2015 at Police Headquarters.

ā€œI have come here and I am on a five year contract,ā€ said Mrs. Stewart, ā€œI am here for the long term and I really want to do the job properly.ā€

ā€œMy vision as I come here is to keep the community of Anguilla safe, this is what policing across the world does,ā€ continued Mrs. Stewart.Ā  ā€œThe police must work with the community to try and build confidence and trust between the community and the police.Ā  Policing does not work on its own; it needs the community interaction to make it work.ā€

Mrs. Stewart expressed concern about the level of gun crime in Anguilla which she deems as one of the big issues.Ā  She made an appeal to the members of the community encouraging them to interact with the members of the Royal Anguilla Police Force and provide them with information about who have the guns and where they can be found. The top COP pledges to do more searches for firearms in an effort to remove them from the community, thereby keeping the community safe.

As part of her long term plans Commissioner Stewart indicated that she intends to develop a Policing Plan for Anguilla where she intends to solicit the assistance of the public.Ā  This would be down through public consultation to establish what the community wants from its police service.Ā  These consultations the Commissioner said will be done across the island to involve a wide as possible cross section of the Anguillan community.

Police investigate theft of motorbikes in Sandy Ground

The Royal Anguilla Police Force is investigating the theft of two motor bikes from a home in Sandy Ground.

On Thursday 23rd July, 2015 police responded to a report that someone had entered the premises and taken two motor bike; one green 250 horse power Kawasaki and one blue 125 horse power motor Yamaha bike.Ā  The two motor bikes valued at US $3,000.00 and US $2,200.00 respectively was removed from the premises sometime between the hours of 12:00am and 1:00am.

Police are also investigating the theft of a multi-coloured Kawasaki motor bike valued at US $4,500.00 that was also removed from a premises in Sandy Ground, in the area of the Old Police Station.

The motor bike which is orange, neon green, yellow and black in colour and has neon green and blue rims and a green fork was noticed missing on the 8th July, 2015 and reported to the police on Wednesday 22nd July, 2015 at about 1:30pm.

As the Police continues investigations into these matters they are appealing to members of the public who may have been in the Sandy Ground Village around the time when either of these incidents are alleged to have occurred and may have witnessed any suspicious activities or have any information regarding these thefts to contact the Valley Police Station with such information.Ā  The telephone number is 497-2333 and asks for the Criminal Investigation Department or to speak to any Police Officer of their choice.
