PROSECUTOR OFFICE UPDATE:
Suspect transported to hospital
PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — Suspect J.G. (42) was transported on Friday evening to the hospital in Philipsburg. This on advice by his doctor. This morning he was transported for further medical investigation to the hospital on the French side of Sint Maarten.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office, due to confidenciality, will not comment on his medical condition.
No further information is available at this time.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office confirms that he was visited earlier this week by the Probation Services and his doctor.
Police officer J.G. is at this moment a suspect in the Whale-investigation suspected of bribery, forgery, and breach of confidentiality.
The suspect remains in pre-trial detention.
PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – Arrested Detective Jerry Gerardus is in another kind of confinement this morning after he suffered a massive stroke in the cells of Police Headquarters after 10:00pm Friday.
Gerardus, who has been in custody for over three weeks on suspicion of bribery, forgery, and breach of confidentiality, is said to have complained to his lawyer about feeling pains on the left side of his body since earlier in the week. The pleas of his lawyer for medical treatment went unheard resulting in Gerardus’ hospitalization in St. Maarten Medical Center.
The police officer, who was a security detail for Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin, may be transported to the French side of the island for follow up medical treatment. When this will happen is not yet known.
Gerardus (42) was arrested on July 3 in an investigation is led by the National Detectives, with assistance from the Police Force and Customs, and overseen by the Prosecutor’s Office. This also entailed a search of his residence in Cole Bay.
